Only fleeting

My poppies were lovely but now in the height of summer, they turned from flowers to seed pods and then they disappeared.

I’m hoping that they will emerge self sown next year. Meanwhile I saved these pics of the pods.

Back in Lock Down.

My state is in Lock Down again. Here’s what I did the house last time, planted some sunnies.

Before

I used to have a row of very overgrown agapanthus out the front of my house. They came out, (with an excavator) and I grew some sunflowers.

After

The sunflowers grew very well, taller than I had envisaged.

Playing with focus.

This flower began as a tiny cutting that had interesting leaf shapes. I pinched a very tiny piece and carefully tended it on my windowsill, until it has grown and flowered. The flower is not really impressive but it is very different!

The first two pictures have interesting points of focus.

Shrimp plant

I’ve had no luck trying to grow this plant, so i kept one in a pot. I moved it to its current Verandah position, shaded but bright, and the dreadful heat, seem to be encouraging it finally to flower. Just the one… but maybe there will be more. I love the colour of its leaves and the flower fascinates me.

As I was weeding today…

As I was weeding today, I noticed these flowers in my garden.

In spring I threw out a packet of meadow seeds and watered them regularly until they emerged. The packet contained mixed seed. Mostly the poppies seem to to be outnumbering everything else. I found an old sunflower that I had kept and edged the plot with its seeds. In hindsight, that was dumb because the sunflowers hide the poppies and all the rest. So in the midst of the garden these had established a home for themselves.
