Another pic I found from my holiday a while ago is this one of Spinifex pigeons. Apparently it is also known as the Plumed Pigeon or Gannaway pigeon. Only two Australian pigeon species possess an erect cress. The other crested pigeon is one that frequents the farm and I have taken lots of pics of it.

Ans below are crested pigeons. Not surprisingly, they’re part of the same family group. How amazing they developed such different colourings.

I find it interesting that palm trees were often planted after WW1 by local communities to honour the fallen. This was especially the case if they had served in one of the desert areas. It also seems to be the case that lots of old farm houses in Australia have at least one tall palm tree in their garden, usually right out the front.
Date palms, (one variety of palm trees) are one of the world’s oldest cultivated fruits. They are also particularly hardy. I often wonder whether they were planted as a food source or as a decoration.
I have one in front of my house, but only one. To produce fruit it needs a mate. The tree was there before I bought the place. It could be very old. Sadly, these amazing orange clusters have produced no fruit.
I love the smell of Lantana. I also love the flowers. In Australia it’s widely regarded as a nasty invasive weed. No wonder. Mine has just exploded with growth. It’s huge. I have only one plant and it hasn’t spread to anywhere nearby. I Prune it savagely to keep it under control. It’s well away from livestock. Apparently its poisonous. How can something so beautiful, have so many negative aspects?
Terrick Terrick National Park is nearby. Terrick Terrick is said to be an aboriginal word for two sisters, referring to “two rises in the Mount Terrick ranges”. It’s rather beautiful, well worth having a closer look.
