Two different cuties today. The first is a wagtail, doing what it’s named for. I realised I haven’t taken any pictures of them, and when I decided it might be a good idea, they were few and far between and wouldn’t stand still for me! More of the swallows. This one was happy to pose.
Some more pictures of what I think are Fairy Martins. Please correct me if I’m mistaken.
I’m not sure whether these are Welcome Swallows of Fairy Martins. Last year we had Fairy Martins flying around in the same spot. I could tell by their distinctive mud bottle nests, under the eave of the barge. This year they are nesting underneath the deck of the barge and I’m not brave enough to jump into the water, swim around and take a look underneath.
I enjoyed my early morning watching them flit around and around, catching insects. After quite some practice I managed to get some photos of the birds in flight. Here are a few sketches.

Young Cormorants. They were sitting peacefully on the logs until I startled them.
This bird was quite large. I’m not sure what it is.
Anyone who is following my blog should realise that most of my photos are taken somewhere on my 80 acre farm. I am lucky to live is a unique wetland environment, in a very dry country. My farm is surrounded be waterways, either lagoons or channels. These pics were taken at the back of my farm directly adjacent to a lagoon.
The baby birds in the previous posts live in a tree down here. The thistles are weeds but quite picturesque.
At the moment pelicans and ducks seem to have taken up residence. Just around the corner I counted over 40 ibis.
Gum trees grow along the banks.
I couldn’t get any closer to this chap. He was watching me take photos from a distant tree.
It’s a totally isolated spot. No one else ventures here. There are some neighbours on the other side of the water. I love the peace and quiet. Even the weeds look picture perfect.

I found these little ones hiding in a tree at the back of the farm. I think I surprised the two below. They didn’t seem to be fully awake for their photo!
They weren’t really energetic at all! They might not have seen a human before.
I just had to post these new pics.
I think these two are Mr and Mrs Bee-eater.
Wait, maybe these two are an old married pair.
And these two. Just watch out where you’re going…
I can’t decide which are my favorite shots.
I love the pose, almost shy.
Then there’s the symmetry.
And the flash of the wings as they flit away.
These distinctive and for me, unusual ducks just flew in for a visit. they were all bunched up together on the lagoon.
They have amazing feathers and are really cute.
