The poor ibis wants to be a pelican.

The poor ibis wants to be a pelican.

Coexisting peacefully.

It was chilly. The pelicans tucked their heads away and shivered!
Here are two headless ones.

Did I mention it was also windy. The pelicans were gathered in this corner of the swamp. Perhaps it was marginally warmer. Having been on a dairy farm, I noticed that cows always turn their backs to the wind. Apparently horses face the wind. There are lots of ideas about wht this is so. I noticed in this picture the pelicans all faced the same way, well all except one. He hadn’t got the memo. Or maybe he was keeping lookout. When my guinea fowl are eating there always seems to be one, not eating, keeping a lookout for predators.

I had something in common with this little guy. We were both crouched over to stay warmer.

Location: Kow Swamp, Victoria, Australia. Kow Swamp is a permanent body of water. It’s used for irrigation.
I spent a very chilly morning photographing these pelicans. The more I watched them the more fascinated I became. Needless to say, I have lots of photos to add this week.

It was a very cold and blustery day. I went off driving and spent some time at Kow Swamp, photographing pelicans. While I was there, shivering, I noticed this bird circling overhead. It was a dull day and I was disappointed in the colours, but I haven’t caught many photos of raptors in flight.

Yesterday I posted some pics of the Darter. Here are a few more.

Thiis bird has stayed around since birth. Meet his family here. Lots of his family have disappeared, but he keeps sitting out front. posing for photographs. I’ve caught him in many new unusual poses. look at his amazing feather patterns.

Yesterday’s post had pics of two odd spoonbills. I took lots of pics so here are some more. I’m pleased with my shot of the two of them in flight. I watched a video on photography that said a ‘good’ shot should have them separated, but I like this one, even if it breaks this rule.

This one was taking off.

I also like this shot from behind that show off his bill.

Today, after taking the gran’kid to school we drove the long way home and passed these two spoonbills.
I had time to take lots of photos, but this one was my favorite. I’m not sure why their bills are different colours. I thought that meant they were two different species. The one with the black bills are Royal Spoonbills. The paler bill is the Yellow-billed Spoonbill. Maybe I’m wrong. Help me out here….
