Bee-eater and friends
The green colored bee-eater has some friends that appear to be more blue colored. They are very striking.

The day before I found the Bee-eater pictured in the last post I went out looking for photo opportunities and took these of bee-eaters less than a kilometre away from my house. They have been returning after a winter absence and I love to see them flitting around flashing their amazing wing colours. I wonder if these are related to the one I found. They look identical to me. My foundling has survived another day, but still doesn’t seem to be able to fly. He’s safe in my glass house.

I can’t decide which are my favorite shots.
I love the pose, almost shy.

Then there’s the symmetry.

And the flash of the wings as they flit away.

I finally managed to capture a bee-eater in flight. These two got my attention. One would fly off, presumably to catch a bug, and then return to the other. Maybe it was feeding it because they seemed to share the food. After a while I realised that if I just waited and held my breath, with my finger on the button, eventually I might be able to catch one in flight.

Needless to say, I have many pics of a single bird, having been too slow or simply missing my chance. But I’m so pleased to have these.
