Echiums in bloom

I love these strange blooms. This white one is lovely at the moment.

I’d love to grow a red one. Maybe next year.

These green blooms haven’t burst into color yet.

Sometimes they grow in some really weird shapes. It’s called fasciation. I had a very odd blue stem last year. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a good picture of it. It can produce some bizarre stems.

These blue flowers just have a bit of a bend in them.

Love the white ones!

Odd Coronas

Did you know the trumpet part of a daffodil is also known as the corona? These poor daffodils might have a corona problem!

I like these even though they haven’t got the traditional trumpet shape associated with daffodils. The yellow ‘bits’, the coronas, are very disheveled. For more of my daffodils, click here.

For Cee’s Flower of the Day (FOTD) challenge

Allowed out – at last

The easing of Covid restrictions saw us hop in the car to visit relatives, a 6 hour drive away to the coast. What a treat!!

On the way, we passed these rather odd hay bales. I guess they must have been for the Queen’s Birthday weekend. back in June. I haven’t been out since long before then. To see the farmer’s previous efforts in a past post click here.

Love the queen!

When we got there, the beach was quite deserted

Even the usually frantic beachside cafe was quiet.

And my better half was really enjoying the day!

Who’s drinking my beer?

Do beer traps eliminate snails in the garden?

“Fancy some strawberries for dinner tonight Herble?”

“Sounds great, but maybe we could have a snails for something different”

“Hmm maybe someone beat us to them.”

“Or maybe I know who has been drinking my beer.”‘

“Oh well, someone keeps leaving it around the garden. They’ll be more soon.”

Water tank

In my backyard I have an old concrete water tank that supplies my drinking water. Its other purpose is home to my climbing roses. When we run out of rain water a very brave water delivery man must meet the challenge of climbing the tank and finding the inlet opening. I often have a difficult choice; water or roses. I generally, and very reluctantly, take pity and prune out a gap.

Today it was windy. Actually that is an understatement; it was blowing a gale. I managed to take some pictures of the roses, but they were being blown around by the wind.

Both the red and white roses are old fashioned singles. Their beauty is pure and simple. Their perfume is heavenly.

Sadly the white rose puts on a magnificent show but it is only fleeting. It only blooms for a very short period of time. The red rose keeps producing flowers for much longer.

Rain outside and inside…..

Ir rained. It happens but rarely. When I checked my glasshouse in the morning I noticed that each of my new garlic seedlings had a single droplet of condensation on their tip. I thought it was worth a picture.

While I was there I took a picture of my latest achievement. These are my canna seedlings that I struggled with previously. Click here. I have some more in individualised trays. These are the ones I didn’t think would grow. I just buried them all just in case. I think one of my tomato seeds must have dropped in too.
