I’ve always wanted to a close up of this bird and today was the day.

What a treat to see this bird – and such a great colour.

Nice work! Sacred Kingfisher (Todiramphus sanctus) arrived here a couple weeks ago. If you hear them calling a rapid keree, keree, keree, keree keree they are in the vicinity of their nest. Look for a small hollow or hole in a tree nearby. Partially migratory, to northern Australia, some go as far as Indonesia and New Guinea. The Rainbow bee-eaters have arrived too. Check out sand hills or any sandy ground. They make a tunnel in the sand to nest.

Fabulous shots! There are so many different kingfishers, but this one takes the prize for most beautiful.
